More than 90% of Americans, according to a research published in the Nutrition Journal, aren’t receiving enough omega-3s in their diet. The California Walnut Commission launched its third annual “Power of 3” global marketing campaign today to raise awareness about the advantages of omega-3 fatty acids and to emphasise how walnuts are a valuable source of plant-based omega-3 ALA (alpha-linolenic acid). Walnuts are a tasty option for consumers to reach the required portion size of plant-based omega-3 ALA (1.6 g/day for men and 1.1 g/day for women) by being conveniently available, diverse in their use in meals and snacks.
Walnuts are the only tree nut that has a considerable quantity of plant-based omega-3 ALA (2.5g/oz), which may help with heart health, brain health, and healthy ageing, according to study. 3-5 Omega-3s come in three forms: EPA and DHA, which are usually found in marine sources like fish and algae, and ALA, an essential plant-based fatty acid found in foods like walnuts, flax, and chia seeds. Separate and aside from the more commonly known benefits of marine sources, research continues to identify the specific benefits of ALA.
Consumers all across the world may now easily incorporate a handful of walnuts into their regular meals and snacks thanks to the promotion. The global campaign will run concurrently in different continents during March, and will include retail discounts, advertising, plant-forward recipes, movies, and more – allowing consumers to effortlessly create multi-cultural eating experiences directly at home.
The California Walnut Commission’s Pam Graviet, Sr. Marketing Director, International, says, “We’ve experienced amazing success with the Power of 3 campaign over the previous two years and are happy to bring it back for 2022.” “With more people adopting a plant-forward diet, it’s been a great opportunity to spread the word about how walnuts may help people reach their specific goals.” Consumers can share how they are improving their health one handful of walnuts at a time by using the hashtag #SharethePowerof3 on social media.
